As the name suggests, Intelligent Automation Week Chicago 2023 was focused on Intelligent Automation, and several vendors showcased AI-based advancements to their products and services.  Speakers discussed the implementation and scaling of automation programs within their organizations. 

Here are some of the key takeaways from Intelligent Automation Week Chicago 2023:

• Core Robotic Process Automation (RPA) remains a powerful force with significant untapped potential. While most organizations have started and scaled automation programs, some large organizations are laggards and are starting their RPA Programs.  Scaled programs continue to see significant value from their automation initiatives. 
• Consumption-based model for procuring RPA Licensing is emerging to be the desired model for adopters of this technology.  Key drivers for seeking this model are to avoid shelfware and to address peaks and valleys in demand.  Such models allow for ramped spend allowing organizations to demonstrate value before a significant spend on software.  
• The use of Generative AI, and LLMs, is being considered by most organizations. Most organizations foresee a significant uplift in productivity through this technology.  Security and Governance is, however, top of mind for organizations.  Enterprises are formulating policies to address these concerns.  These policies are being considered as pilot implementations are being developed.  This technology is evolving rapidly and proving challenging for organizations to keep up with. Ethical and legal implications of using LLMs for decision-making are also a concern, and organizations are seeking advice from internal risk and compliance teams and regulators.  
• A noticeable trend towards a multi-platform approach has emerged, with automation customers increasingly considering adding additional platforms or migrating platforms. Factors driving this decision include long-term ROI, cost avoidance from extensive upgrades, scalability concerns, and improved adoption rates on alternative platforms.
